Fighting climate change, ensuring a secure, resilient and affordable supply, while managing decentralization and digitalization - never before have such high demands been placed on energy systems.
But there is no acceleration without essential components of speed: resources, technology, and people. This session will debate today's hurdles and potential bottlenecks in grids, before discussing answers and solutions for overcoming them, including collaboration between stakeholders, securing the supply of inputs and ways to attract talents for the clean energy industry.

Nicolas Pigeon, Enedis

Head of Smart Metering Services Division

France

Graduated from the 'École Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs Electriciens' (ENSIEG) from Grenoble in 1999, Nicolas Pigeon specialized in electrical signal processing. Therefore, he quite naturally focused his career on smart metering systems. Nicolas Pigeon started his career at Sagemcom, a French group specializing in the production of smart terminals. He joined a project on behalf of EDF in Tunisia. Four years later, he took part in a project to develop smart meters in the Shenzhen region in China. In 2013, he took charge of the development of several smart metering systems projects and designed programs adapted to the specific needs of clients. In 2014, Nicolas Pigeon joined Enedis, EDF's Distribution Division. The global deployment of the Linky project had just been launched: 5 years to install 35 million meters for all individual customers in France. Having worked for one of the meter manufacturers, Nicolas Pigeon knew the technology perfectly. He led the teams dedicated to the project where he supervised testing activities, ensuring the meters' quality and reliability before their integration. After a few years of coordinating the development of the Linky system and improving the industrial process of operating the smart meter network, he has been in charge of the Smart Metering Services department since 2022, aiming to make the Linky technology available for other DSOs, as well as to develop high value-added systems using the data from the Smart Meters.
