Celsio – Cost-Effective and Sustainable Process Heat

Around two-thirds of industrial energy demand goes into process heat – still largely generated from natural gas today. That means high CO₂ emissions and energy costs that have doubled in many places since 2020. At the same time, the expansion of renewables is creating more and more hours with very cheap electricity. So far, this price volatility has gone largely untapped.

Celsio turns it into a competitive advantage. We extend existing steam systems with an electric steam generator, creating a hybrid setup that can switch flexibly between gas and electricity – without interfering with the ongoing production process. AI-based optimization trades electricity in real time across all relevant markets (day-ahead, intraday, balancing) and automatically controls the system in response to current market signals.

The result: heat costs up to 25 % lower, around 28 % less gas consumption, and roughly 1,600 tons of CO₂ avoided per year and site – with a payback period of about three years. As electricity supplier and optimizer, we take on the entire complexity on the power-market side: from procurement and balancing-group management to asset control.
